Sermons after sermons, sharing after sharing convicted me of my attitude towards serving. I tend to feel the injustice, I tend to grumble. But when we look up to Him, when we get closer to Him, so often we will realize how astray we are.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. (Romans 12:10 NIV)
Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 NIV)
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35 NIV)
But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. (Matthew 19:30 NIV)
We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. (1 John 4:19-21 NIV)
Such a strong wake up call to me that is. If we do not genuinely love others, they will never feel the love of God overflowing through us onto them.
We too are loved by God and empowered by His Spirit to serve Him by serving others in countless ways each day through kind words and actions. The more we understand God's love, the more love we will show to others.
To serve is a privilege, not a sacrifice. To serve is a want, not a need. To serve is to get to be more and more like Him, not to seek affirmation from man or to show off our abilities.
Lord, may you always remind me of that and use me for the glory of your kingdom.
